Born in 1977, Sim Luttin recalls her earliest memory of what she wanted to be when she grew up was to be an inventor. Ever since Luttin can remember, she was encouraged to do things in a more labour intensive, meticulous old-school way, which was often a longer, more detailed method. Now, many years later she approaches her creative work this way.

Luttin graduated with her Masters of Fine Arts in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design in 2008 after spending three years at the School of Fine Arts, Indiana University Bloomington, USA under Professor Randy Long and Assistant Professor Nicole Jacquard. In 2008 Luttin earned an Alma Eikerman Award from Indiana University, USA as well as an Australia Council Emerging Artist Grant to develop new work, some of which was exhibited alongside her Masters work in her recent solo exhibition Hint of a Memory at Metalab Gallery in Sydney, Australia.

In 2006 Luttin was awarded a Women’s Jewelry Association Student Scholarship, USA as well as a Technical Assistant Scholarship at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine, USA to assist Australian artist Julie Blyfield.

Luttin completed a Metals Associateship in the Career Development Scheme at the JamFactory: Contemporary Craft and Design in 2005 in Adelaide, Australia, where she worked for two years in a collaborative environment on studio, public art and commission projects as well as expanding her own jewellery practice under the tutelage of Studio Director Sue Lorraine.

In 2003 Luttin graduated with a BFA with Distinction in Gold and Silversmithing, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne, Australia under Associate Professor Dr. Robert Baines.

Luttin has exhibited at Galerie Marzee, Netherlands, Velvet Da Vinci Gallery, San Francisco and SoFA Chicago and had work published in various books.
