about my work
The transcendence presented by the miniature is a special transcendence, a transcendence which erases the productive possibilities of understanding through time. Its locus is thereby the nostalgic.
∼ Susan Stewart, 1993 ~
My current practice explores the theme ‘the temporary nature of things’, which investigates notions of landscape, nostalgia, impermanence, and passing time. I am drawn to ideas concerning the deterioration of memory, and particularly how fleeting impressions from nature (both literal and abstract) captured in miniature objects can evoke strong feelings of nostalgia and melancholy.
The jewellery and objects I make reflect forms that are reminiscent of nature; they are about revealing the beauty and poetry in everyday moments…
About discovering and noticing the little things that might otherwise pass you by…
About tiny observations that might otherwise go unnoticed…
Each piece invites the viewer to look more closely at the detail and repetition embodied in the object; process becomes tangled with concept.
I endeavor to explore the poetic…
To entice those who don’t take objects at face value, to take the time to investigate each piece…
The undulating surfaces; the space each piece occupies and simultaneously contains.
