The holes in the bitumen in the New York city streets would take you down into the depths of the city's underground labyrinth of tunnels, sewers and pipes. The covers of these peopleholes are stunning forms in and of themselves. They vary from cover to cover and reflect the forge that created them and, more commonly now, the utility service they access.
